Tell us about your goals, what inspired you to get into CTF?

Initially, I joined CTF because it is one of the few gyms with childcare in Chicago. My goal was to get back into pre-baby shape.

What do you do from 9 to 5?

I’m a dentist part time. The other days I’m attempting to keep my almost 1 year old daughter entertained.

When do you make time to workout?

On the days I work I run during my lunch hour. The other days, Riley hangs out with Olivia in the childcare room while I work out.

How do your workouts at CTF keep you going in your busy professional life?

CTF keeps my energy up and keeps me motivated. Also, burning the extra calories makes me feel less guilty about all the food I love to eat!

What’s one goal you have inside the gym and one outside of it?

My goal is to do 5 pull-ups. My goal outside of the gym is to keep the vegetable plants I planted on my roof alive long enough to produce vegetables…ideally all summer!

Tell us about you goals, what inspired you to get into CTF.

I really want to be fit and active again. Prior to my 4 year old being born, I used to be an active crossfitter and runner, logging tons of miles each week. After she was born, working out was tough between starting up my new business and being a new parent. About two years ago, I started looking through pictures and realized how much weight I had gained and I knew I had to change something. I started searching for a west loop gym and CTF popped up and I gave it a try. About a year ago, I mixed in personal training along with group fitness classes and feel incredibly excited about the progress I’ve made.

What do you do from 9 to 5?

My 5AM – 7PM gig is co-running SoMe Connect (http://www.someconnect.com), a chicago digital marketing agency. I do most of the business development, marketing, and speaking for SoMe and it’s really awesome fun.

When do you make time to workout?

I’m lucky enough to work from home a few days a week (in Aurora) so I make time in the mornings before coming into work on Monday/Wednesday/Fridays when I’m in the city. It’s a nice walk from Union Station and close enough to work for me.

How do your workouts at CTF keep you going in your busy professional life?

It gives me an insane amount of energy and focus to move forward with my day. Talking and being pushed by Betina in the mornings before going into work helps me focus and think about what’s next and also give me some personal time to regroup and energize for the day ahead.

What’s one goal you have inside the gym and one outside of it?

My one goal this year inside the gym is to push myself and quiet my mind and focus in on the movements more. My goal outside of the gym is to continue on my focus to eliminate processed sugar in my diet.

Tell us about you goals, what inspired you to get into CTF.

What inspired me to get into CTF originally was breakdancing, I wanted to sharpen my strength and agility to improve my training and take it to the next level. I remember my first class, which was with Mike Mendoza, coming all the way on the train from my home in Cicero, I was hoping for an exciting experience and it was nothing short of “amazing”, if you consider getting your butt kicked amazing. From this first impression, I have forever loved the CTF mindset and motto of “Eat Clean, Train Dirty” and have been addicted to the environment everyone creates. But not only is it the mindset that planted a strong seed in me but the outgoing and personable attitudes of the trainers that made me want to be better than ever before. From this, I’ve created many goals over time and accomplished many of them. While currently working on obtaining my personal training certification, my long-term goal is to be able to qualify for the CrossFit Games in the next 5 years. I simply want to inspire others and give back the knowledge and attitude I have obtained from being around such an amazing team of individuals. Lastly, a quote that has kept me going from day one that I hope motivates others, “Believe me, the reward is not so great without the struggle” by Wilma Rudolph, Olympic Gold Medalist. We all must endure struggle and challenges before we can reap any reward. If things in life were easy to obtain then they would not be worth obtaining and fitness to me is worth the challenge and struggle.

What do you do from 9 to 5?

I have been working as a Registered Nurse on the night shift for 3 years now at a psychiatric facility, which I find very interesting because of my fascination with the way the brain works and it’s responses to stress.
Tell us more about your hobby: breakdancing!
I have a strong creative side that I don’t get to bring out much and nor do most even know. I have been breakdancing in a crew 2 friends and I created called “Sour Apples Crew” for 8 years now, being a “sour apple” is simply a lifestyle of always trying to bring creativity and innovation to any aspect of life from working out to obtaining an education.

When do you make time to workout?

Most of the time I work out in the mornings after I get off work with my trainer Jeremy. When I’m not with him, I always come in during open gym hours in the mornings and make up fun workouts to keep my body guessing. I like to utilize all of my free time, even if that is stretching while watching tv or busting out 100 squats at my desk at work.

How do your workouts at CTF keep you going in your busy professional life?

The workouts at CTF have kept me in such good health that a few months ago I noticed that the sleeping issues, which had been an effect from working the night shift had greatly improved.
I have always felt that as nurse, who am I to tell a patient they need to lose weight and lead a healthy lifestyle, if I too do not live in that way. Also, if you asked anyone, they would say CTF is my home away from home and after long work days. This is the one place everyone knows I’m at because of the peace I get from being around like-minded individuals which has become very stimulating to both my mind and body.

What’s one goal you have inside the gym and one outside of it?

One goal I have for myself inside the gym right now is to be able to do consecutive muscle ups, so close but no dice yet!
One goal I have for myself outside the gym, as I mentioned earlier, is to become a certified personal trainer and from that, my future goal of becoming a Nike Master trainer so I can bring my knowledge of body and mind with my enthusiasm for fitness to everyone!

Tell us about you goals, what inspired you to get into CTF.

I started working out at CTF before my wedding in November 2015. At that point my primary goals were essentially to tone down and lose weight. Since then, my personal trainer, Jeremy, encouraged to complete the GoRuck Tough Challenge this May so my goals shifted towards strength and muscular endurance. My next goal is a Chicago Marathon PR. Group classes were also what inspired me to try out CTF- I love the aspect of competition that they provide and I love being challenged by all the trainers.

What do you do from 9 to 5?

I work at MacNeal Hospital as a Physical Therapist.

When do you make time to workout?

My schedule changed with a new job, so I now attend evening classes after work.

How do your workouts at CTF keep you going in your busy professional life?

Working out is my stress reliever! I spend all day focusing on the health of my patients, so I (selfishly) love being able to focus on and challenge myself for 50 minutes with no distractions. It helps keep my professional and personal life balanced!

What’s one goal you have inside the gym and one outside of it?

Inside the gym: Perfect my pull-ups! Outside the gym: Improve my diet- I’m always working towards eating as healthy as possible which is difficult with my love for ice cream and sweets. Additionally, a main goal is to improve and refine my clinical skills as a Physical Therapist and establish new roles within my current job.
