Chicago Personal Training

What’s your fitness goal? Is it to lose weight? To work on a six pack? To finally get a muscle up? Whatever your aspiration, working with a Chicago personal trainer is a great way to get you on the right track. With a trainer, you receive personalized attention and can really focus on exercises that will effectively help you reach your goal, whatever it might be. If this is your first time working out with a personal trainer, we have some tips to help you get the most out of your Chicago personal training sessions:

Be Clear About Your Goals

It’s important to be clear about your goals when it comes to personal training. The more specific you are with what you want to accomplish, the more personalized your trainer can make your workouts. For instance, if your goal is to lose weight, make it more tangible by specifying exactly how much weight you want to lose. Your trainer can help you set realistic expectations and track your progress along the way.

It’s also perfectly normal to not really be sure of what you want to accomplish when working out with a personal trainer. Just communicate those feelings to your trainer, and they can work with you to figure out what you might want to improve upon.

Keep Your History in Mind

Make sure your personal trainer is well aware of any past injuries that still bother you from time to time. Exercises can always be modified to help keep you healthy throughout your workouts. For instance, if your knees have always bothered you when you run, rowing is another great cardio alternative. But don’t expect your trainer to read your mind – keep him or her updated.

Arrive on Time

Most Chicago personal training sessions are either 30 or 60 minutes, and each of those minutes is valuable. The longer it takes you to show, the less time you can spend on reaching your goals. Treat your workouts like you would a doctor appointment or business meeting. Arrive on time and be prepared.

Don’t Trust the Scale

After each personal training session, it may be tempting to check the scale to see how much weight you’ve lost, but the truth is, the scale may not be an accurate representation of your progress. Instead, focus on how you feel rather than whatever number is in front of you. Keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat!

Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone

It can be easy to convince yourself you can’t do something, whether it’s a single pull-up or 10 interrupted hand release push-ups. But it’s when you start to challenge yourself that you’ll begin to really see results. Oftentimes, your body is capable of a whole lot more than you give it credit for. During your next workout, tell yourself ‘I can.’ Push yourself to do one more rep, try a pull-up without the help of a band or increase your speed by just a few points on the treadmill. Those little things can end up creating big results.
