Each neighborhood in Chicago offers something different and enticing, and River North is certainly no exception. Next time you find yourself on the north side of the city, you may want to plan on staying awhile, as there are plenty of places and activities to check out. Here are a few of our favorite activities in the River North neighborhood:
Get in A Good Workout
Looking for a River North gym? Start off your day right with a high intensity interval class at the new CrossTown Fitness location, which is just twenty minutes from River North via public transportation. At our new location, you won’t just be getting a great sweat session, you’ll have the opportunity to meet new people and enjoy any of the snacks and smoothies we have available at our cafe.
See a Concert at the House of Blues
This iconic live music venue has offered up its stage for musicians including Blues Traveler, Walk the Moon, Sister Hazel, Wiz Khalifa, Disclosure, Kings of Leon and Dispatch. Before your concert, you can grab some dinner at the House of Blues, where they serve a mix of international and American dishes.
Take a Kayak Tour
You may have seen the city on foot or from a car, but have you seen the Windy City from a kayak on the Chicago river? Wateriders Kayak Tours offers guided excursions down the river where you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of beautiful architecture like the Wrigley Building and the Willis Tower. Plus, if you’re not in the gym, kayaking is another fun way to get your exercise in for the day!
Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth at Firecakes
If you’re in the mood for something sweet, make your way over to Hubbard Street, where you’ll find a tiny coffee and donut shop called Firecakes. The donuts are made fresh each morning, so if you go in there only planning on getting a coffee, think again. In the display case, you’ll see a variety of unique donut flavors, including butterscotch praline, maple glazed pineapple and bacon, chocolate hazelnut long john and triple chocolate cake. If you really want to indulge, try the ice cream donut sandwich – a sweet treat that is difficult to turn down.
Grab A Drink
When you’re done shopping and sightseeing in River North, plan on sticking around for a night out on the town. This area of the city is known for it’s exciting night life. If you’re a fan of country music, you’ll want to head over to Bub City – a venue that brings the country twang of Nashville to Chicago. Stop in for a drink and enjoy the live music! If you would rather enjoy the stunning views Chicago has to offer at night, check out the rooftop bar at Epic, where you can soak in the sights.
